Dear parents

WELCOME TO THE YEAR 5 BLOG GIF.gif

Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.

Every Friday, the blog will be shared with the class to recap our learning and make them aware of their homework. Moving to online homework has allowed us to become a more eco friendly school. Throughout the week we will be learning about the spelling rule in preparation for the quiz on Thursday. Spelling frame can be used for practise along with the spelling strategies shared on the blog below.

Reedley Primary School: Homework

Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading records asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.

πŸ“°πŸ–ŒοΈThis Week in English: A Mythical Adventure! 🌟

This week in English, the children took a dive into the world of mythology, crafting their very own newspaper reports on the legendary tale of Perseus and Medusa. 🐍✨

Not only did they focus on the factual retelling of this famous myth, but they also showcased their creativity by designing WANTED posters for Medusa herself, complete with a vivid description of her unique features and a summary of her alleged crimes.

This Week in Maths: Division Fun! πŸ“ŠπŸ”’

This week in Year 5, the children have been mastering division! 🌟 Let’s take a look at what they’ve been up to:

🌍 What We Learned:

  1. Chunking: Children broke down big numbers (four-digit) into smaller parts to make division easier.

  2. Estimating: They rounded numbers before dividing, helping them get a quick idea of the answer.

  3. Written Methods: Using written chunking, the children wrote out their calculations and explored remainders as fractions.

  4. Mental Math: Children practised quick mental partitioning to solve division problems fast!

  5. Choosing Strategies: They picked the best strategy for each division problem, boosting their confidence.

Exploring Faith in RE: Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego

This week in our RE lesson, the children examined the story from Daniel Chapter 3. In this tale, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stand strong in their beliefs and refuse to worship King Nebuchadnezzar's golden statue. Because of their bravery, they are thrown into a fiery furnace, but miraculously, they come out unharmed! πŸ”₯

To help understand this powerful story, the children created storyboards to retell the events and looked at how various artists have interpreted this remarkable story. 🎨✏️ It was wonderful to hear their discussions about faith, courage, and standing up for what they believe.

Art Week

Nextv week, we are beginning our project entitled 'Something Special.' As part of this project, we have thought about things that are special to us and explained the reasons why, going into detail about how they make us feel. We reflected on a worship from earlier in the week where Mrs Obertelli shared something that was special to her and explained whay and how it made her fel. I have asked the children to think about their ' something special over the weekend and either bring it in or a photograph of it for our art project next week.

This week, as part of Drowning Prevention Week, we have been learning and thinking about how to stay safe around water. We've explored important tips for keeping ourselves and others safe at the pool, beach and near open water, and talked about how to make smart choices when playing or swimming. Understanding water safety helps us enjoy the water while reducing the risks of accidents.

Support Services for Safeguarding Children

Safeguarding - morning routine

If you are dropping off your child at the classroom door / KS2 entrance door and need to pass a message on to a member of staff please do so by speaking to the staff member who monitors the door in the morning.
If you need to enter school for any other reason, adults can only enter the school building via the main school entrance and seek assistance from the school office team. If you are attending a meeting with a member of staff you must sign in at the front desk as a visitor and have an ID lanyard.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school and children safe.

🎀🌟 Darwin Rocks Performance! 🌟🎀

We are excited for the upcoming Darwin Rocks performance! Our children have been working hard and are ready to sing their hearts out.

For the performance, all children need to wear a black t-shirt. If your child has a black t-shirt with a logo or picture, that's fine! They can simply wear it inside out or back to front, so no need to buy a new one.
