Year 5 Friday blog 5th September 2025
Date: 4th Sep 2025 @ 1:29pm
Dear Parents,
Hello and welcome to our class blog! My name is Mrs Jones, and I am delighted to be joining Euxton Primary as the new Assistant Headteacher and Year 5 class teacher. I feel very privileged to be working with such a wonderful group of children and I am excited to share with you some of the fantastic learning and experiences taking place in our classroom each week.
We have had a fantastic first week back at school, the children have settled really well and have made a great start to Year 5!
Every Friday the blog will be shared with the class to recap our learning and make them aware of their homework.
Homework
Spelling
Each week the children will receive a set number of spellings to practice at home and they will be tested on them every Thursday. This week the children have been given their log in details for spelling shed to have a look at. If there are any issues accessing the web site please let us know and we will sort this for you.
Reading
Reading is such an important part of the curriculum and has huge benefits for the children. This week the children have been sent home with a reading book to enjoy. Once the children have read this and their record has been signed, the book can be changed. We will ensure these are checked daily by a member of the Year 5 team.
Times tables
The children will continue to use TT Rockstars to practice there times tables knowledge. The use of times tables is key to the maths curriculum and the children will gain so much from being able to recite their tables at speed.
Learning this week
English
This week in English, we have started to explore our class text which is based on The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. The children were given clues which they had to use to predict what our class text was going to be. We then started to explore the book and used our 5 senses to create a setting description from the point of view of one of the children within the story.
Maths
This week in maths, we have started our topic on place value. We began by looking at 5- and 6-digit whole numbers. We used a range of pictorial and concreate resources to partition our numbers. We then moved onto decimal number, and the value of each digit within a number.
RE
This week in RE, we have started exploring the Bible. Our big question this half term is 'How and why do Christians read the Bible?'
We started the unit by exploring what we already knew about different faith and Holy books. We then focussed our learning on the Bible and explored our favourite Bible stories and retold them.
