We have investigated two aspects of Tom's Midnight Garden. The first has been to use the graphic novel to write with dialogue which moves the action on. We have enjoyed singing the 'direct speech' song to support us with this. Following this, we considered the ways in which we could develop sophisticated setting descriptions. We watched a film clip from 'Narnia' when Lucy goes through the wardrobe. Using our 'cameras', we thought about how the setting was revealed to us. Using this, as well as more extracts from our graphic novel, we have written a letter which gives a setting description.

This week in maths we have consolidated our understanding of dividing fractions. We are now going to spend the next week brushing up on our arithmetic skills. This involves lots of practise and working with smaller groups of children to support them on skills they still need to practise. In addition to this we have sung along to our seven times tables in what may have become our favourite song....cue Rick Astley!

We have enjoyed a wonderful week of RE discussions surrounding the incarnation. We have used the bibles to look up scripture from the prophet Zechariah and compare it to accounts in Matthew, where the prophesy came true. We have thought about the type of messiah the Jewish people would have wanted-examples included a strong warrior, who could fight and protect them-and considered how the humble beginnings of Jesus contrasted this. We have then made connections to what it means to be a humble and peaceful leader and read about examples of the some pacifists. Finally, it wass fanstastic to discuss with the children to beauty and benefit of giving-rather than recieving-presents at Christmas.

This week in our DT project, the children completed decorating their cube nets to create a piece of furniture. We had lots of wonderful examples, including washing machines, ovens, bookcases and a toy box! We are looking forward to making use of these objects for our bomb shelter designs next week.
Wishing you a lovely weekend,
