Dear parents,
Homework
- Spelling Shed and spellings practise
Have a go at logging into Spelling Shed-your details are in the your reading record-and completing the game. If you have any problems, please let me know on Monday so that we can resolve the issue.
Reading
As we know, reading is a crucial part of our curriculum and has a multitude of benefits, especially for our mental wellbeing. We are keen to promote a love of reading and the children have already received their first guided reading book. For guided reading this half-term, we enjoy a novel and our 'book-club' sessions. Please sign their Reading Records at least weekly.
On Monday, your child will bring home their CGP test book. Homework this week is to complete the first test.
Maths-numbers past 1,000,000
This week in maths we have secured our place value of numbers beyond one million. The children can confidently say, read and write numbers up to one hundred million. Challenge them with a long set of digits! We have partitioned numbers and used our place value knowledge to make a start on mental addition and subtraction strategies. We have plenty of lovely resources in the classroom to support our learning.
English-Is Mrs Ramsbottom a good mother?
The class have completed their first piece of Year 6 writing, a balanced argument about the mother from our poem: Albert and the Lion. This writing has been supported by lots of intelligent debate about the suitability of Mrs Ramsbottom to be a mother. We also spent time writing plans for our balanced arguments, before carefully constructing them. Most of the children have received detailed verbal feedback, where we work through their writing together. The remaning will receive theirs on Monday.
RE-Life as a journey
Year 6 had a wonderful time this week making decisions for Bishop Philip as he prepared to go on a hike. They had to select the correct bag and make choices over different routes and I think they thoroughly enjoyed it! Following this, they thought about the preparation, motivation and resources required to a selection of journeys, from going on holiday to preparation for baptism.
PE-Oh I do like to be beside the seaside
What a great start the class have made to this dance topic! We began by thinking about our poem, The Lion and Albert and considering how people enjoyed the seaside in the 1930s. Following this, the children got into a rhythm with the music and began to form co-ordinated movements with their groups. Over the coming weeks, this will build into a full dance routine.
Dates to remember:
Meet the teacher: Wednesday 17th September
Crucial Crew visit: Monday 13th October (letters have been sent; please return reply slips).
Trip to Manchester Jewish Museum and Imperial War Museum: unfortunately, the Jewish Museum informed me that they were double booked and so I have cancelled this trip. I am currently looking into an alternative, which I hope will happen during October-watch this space!
Have a great weekend!
