Year 6 Blog-Friday 21st November
Date: 6th Nov 2025 @ 2:30pm
Dear Parents,
Please see below for a poster about an advent scheme. This has been developed by a group of children in our class and is a great idea! They would like to run an advent gift-giving scheme where every day a child (or two) will get to select a very modestly priced gift from under our tree. Polite reminder: we are a nut-free school. Please also label any allergens, including gluten and dairy. Many thanks for your support with this and well done to the girls for their entrprenuerial spirit!
Homework
Please complete your CGP booklet Set B Test 3. Remember-to gain 3 marks for the final question, you should always aim to complete PEE (point, evidence, explain) twice!
Please see below for the list of spellings:
parliament
especially
committee
lightning
vegetable

curiosity
soldier

In English this week, we have completed our independent pieces of writing, which are full of suspense. The class have done a super job on these! Following on from this, we have begun to look at the iconic 'I have a dream' speech, delivered by Martin Luther King Jr. Initially, we gained an understanding of civil rights activism and the message Martin LUther King Jr was trying to convey. We have used this understanding to help us to choose and memorise one section of the speech, which we will perform.
In grammar, we have learnt about the perfect and progressive tense.

We have continued to master adding and subtracting fractions which have different denominators. This has included finding the lowest common multiple of the fractions and we have even added three fractions together.

This week, we drew together all of our understanding about the nature and character of God by answering key questions about it. The children have worked hard to make insightful comments.
History
The children are sad to see our World War 2 topic come to an end, but they have made a fabulous start on our 'checking-out' task, where they are conveying all of their understanding. They are drawing knowledge from their history books as well as from across the curriculum, for example, our English work about Anne Frank.
Wishing you a lovely weekend,
The Year 6 team
