Year 6 Blog-Friday 22nd November
Date: 22nd Oct 2024 @ 12:57pm
Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 6 Friday blog.
Wow Day-World War 2 Evacuee Day
Friday 13th December
As part of our history topic, we are going to enjoy a wow day where the children are welcome to come to school dressed as evacuees. There is no need to buy anything new for this, please be creative with what you own!
Year 6 Spelling Frame and TTRS Champions
Well done also to Maddie for her 'Gone Green' certificate this week in TTRS-super work! I can see lots of children practising on both these platforms; keep it up!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings and times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading -Thank you to all children who have handed their books in by Thursday. Unfortunately, there are still a few who are not handing their books in on time. Please remind your child to complete their comprehension task and bring it to school by Thursday morning at the latest.
This week they need to complete Set B Test 3.
Spellings -From today (Friday 22nd November), we will look at our new spelling rule: soft ce-. There is a video attached to this blog which explains the rule. Please see below for a selection of spellings and children can access their latest test on Spelling Frame. The test for this spelling rule will on Thursday. The children are being tested on their ability to apply the rule and so practising lots of different spellings is beneficial.

Maths: Homework is based on equivalent fractions. I have included a worked example. I will hold a Homework Clinic on Wednesday at 12.30pm (for ten minutes).
Our learning this week in Year 6
English
The children have worked really hard to write a diary entry based upon Anne Frank. We have discussed the plight of the Jewish people during World War 2 and thought about how frightening it must have felt. We also considered how we can structure our writing, so that it flows.
Maths
We have looked at equivalent fractions, how to simplify fractions and looking at them on a number line. Once again, times table knowledge is absolutely critical. Well done to all those accessing TTRS frequently!
RE
We have discussed what we think the symbolism in the advent wreath may mean and added scripture references (from memory) to our work. We then went outsdie to make our own natural advent wreaths. We are now ready to spend the coming weeks learning and connecting the symbolism of each week of advent to our own lives.
