Grammar lessons

We like to sing our way through most of our grammar lessons.  Take a look at one of our songs below:

Maths-rounding, estimation and bar models.

This week we have secured our knowledge of rounding, using our karate style dance.  The stem sentences are:  'the number is....' 'the choices are...' 'the number is....' 'fall to the floor/climb the vine'.  The children have animated this brilliantly (think Karate Kid!).  We have discussed the use of rounding and estimating in supporting our maths knowledge and have also looked at missing number problems.

English-Wallace's diary entry

Following the success of Mrs Ramsbottom's diary entry, we have now turned our focus to Wallace, the lion.  We watched a clip from The Lion King and have drawn similarities between Wallace and Scar.  Using this information, the children have independently written a diary entry from the point of view of Wallace.

RE-Life as a journey

This week we used our beautiful school bibles to look up parables.  We used these parables to draw an understanding of how Christian's should journey through their lives.  For example, the parable of the mustard seed teaches us that small things can grow very large if they are taken care of.

History-artefacts

In History we have had the opportunity to look at World War 2 artefacts, which have been borrowed from the Lancashire Loans service.  We were very fortunate to look at a wide array of objects which have developed our understanding of the war.  Using our stems sentences, the children drew and responded to artefacts of their choice.

Dates to remember:

Crucial Crew visit: Monday 13th October (letters have been sent; please return reply slips).

Evacuee day: Wednesday 22nd October

Monday 3rd November:  Secret War trip at the Museum of Lancashire.  Letter to follow.
