Year 6 Blog-Friday 5th December

Date: 6th Nov 2025 @ 2:50pm

Dear Parents,

Jumble sales of the apocalypse: Christingle - Reform ...

Christingle
This special service led by the children in Year 6 and Year 5. It will take place next Monday 8th December at 2pm in church and will include readings and carols. Two adults per Y5/Y6 child are welcome to join us. The service will last approximately 45 minutes. Children can be collected from church after the service or return to school as normal if attending after school club.  Please inform the office with end of day arrangements by emailing Miss Croft [email protected]. Thank you.

Christingle is a festive celebration that helps raise funds for The Children’s Society, a charity dedicated to supporting vulnerable children and young people across the UK. We will be collecting donations before and after our Christingle service. Every contribution, big or small, helps provide vital support to children who need it most. Thank you for your generosity and for helping us share hope this Christmas season!

The children have completed a GPS SATS paper and a reading booklet.  They approached both of these tests with maturity and have spent time reviewing their answers.  You will have seen that your child has brought some of their tests home to celebrate their efforts with you.  It is also an opportunity for you to have a sample of what a typical SATS paper looks like.  The children need to achieve just over half-marks to gain expected standard.

We have now begun our new English unit, which is based upon Tom's Midnight Garden.  We will be using this excellent fantasy text to explore setting descriptions and how dialogue can be used to move the action forward.

The children completed a full set of SATS papers this week and-more importantly-spent time reviewing some their questions with their peers and having another go using their purple pen.  We are extremely pleased with how well the children conducted themselves through these tests, using great problem-solving skills in the reasoning paper.  We used lots of our Happy Mind brain language to ensure the children were using their pre-frontal cortex and hippocampus to support them!

In RE, we reviewed the different parts of the advent wreath.  We were also delighted to welcome Mrs Rongong-headteacher of St Michael's High School-to our school and I was extremely fortunate to accompany her on part of her 24 miles for advent challenge.  We shared prayers with Mrs Rongong and I ran with her to Charnock Richard Primary school, where I read a prayer for them, from us.  We are continuing to think about the journey of advent and connect it to the journey and preparation within our own lives, thinking about what characteristics we will develop and how these could be of service to others.

DT

Our DT project this term is to reserach, design and build a 3D structure of a modern-day bomb shelter. We have made a start to the skills aspect of our DT project by cutting and building cubes from nets.

Wishing you a lovely weekend,
