Dear Year 6 and Parents,

Year 6,

It has been wonderful to teach you this year and I know we talk about your memories, but you have given me lots of lovely memories too, so thank you.

So, some of the things that I remember are…

Our lessons?  From Maths to Science, from History to Geography, I can always rely on Luke, Eleanor, Milly and Connor to see me through.  Hands are always in the air, always contributing.  Of course they’re not the only ones, and once you get gong there’s no stopping you lot! Some of the things you have mentioned in RE discussions, through artwork and Geography have been the stuff of GCSE lessons. And let’s not forget learning which has taken place at home; Max, your work on World War 2 bunkers during Autumn term for excellent.

And what a class you have been to teach!  No matter who you are, you have absorbed your learning like sponges.  We have sung grammar songs, chanted rhymes and made up actions.  You have shown great resilience through every single thing….and this is the reason you have made the progress you have.  By being able to listen to advice and change.  The level of peer support within your class has been beyond anything I have seen before.  You trust and look after one another; you show great respect for each other’s learning journeys and that is the reason why you are where you are.

But let’s move outside the classroom….

I remember…

Standing in multiple different climates through the girls’ football matches.  Faith B, Hannah, Elizabeth, Isla, Ruby and Faith S, Betty, Bethany and Josie do you remember sunshine one minute and hail stones the next?  I do!  And what about the football-we had a mixture of new and experienced players, but everyone played and supported each other.  And you made it to the finals, as a team!  But that’s the not only thing you’ve done to represent school; we’ve had our boys football team: Stanley, Connor, Thomas, Benjamin, Henry, Oscar, Luke, Josh, Ezra sportshall athletics , our cross country  (including convincing Aidan that yes-running around a cold muddy field in the wind and rain on a Saturday morning is a good thing!); I loved coming to watch you-Eleanor, Thomas, Ruby, Jess, Isla, Elizabeth, Betty and Sophie -in your netball final which was-in the words of Gemma who runs SSP-the highest standard of final she had ever seen.  And, of course, the swimming gala straight after Robinwood.  And I know there are many more sports-too many to name.  Phew-you are an energetic bunch!

But we’re not just all about the sport-we have some wonderful musicians too.  Oliver S’s wonderful saxophone playing, we’ve had Oliver Ralph perform beautifully for the Last Post and he will be duetting with Thomas for the EuXton factor.  We’ve had Rock Steady performances-where learning a brand new instrument and being able to perform as part of an ensemble is a real achievement.

Darwin Rocks was a huge display of your talent.  You all stepped up so much and worked so hard on your performances; for some of you, this meant overcoming the nerves, like Harrison and Isabelle-I am so proud of you.  We listened to beautiful solos from Ruby, Aidan, Bethany and Oliver; from Faith B, Isabelle, Maddie, Luke, Stanley and Jessica as well as Henry.  But let’s not forget our boy band, the Feugians.  I remember standing outside with you during one worship, trying to figure out some choreography.  I don’t think I’m the best to lead that but you got there in the end, and it was great.

Robinwood was a great experience and each and everyone of you did us proud; the staff thought you were brilliant even if Faith Shooter did pull the cord on the giant swing too early!  We had a great time with our team challenges, building cup towers and filling our tubes.

I could stand here for another hour talking about the many more memories we have made this year, but I think people may have homes to go to.  So, I would like to finish with a unique poem, just for you….

Enjoy your summer and enjoy Year 7.  You will be great!

Don't forget to come back and see us, we would love to hear how you are getting on!
