Year 6 Friday Blog-20th June

Dear Parents,
Art
We are beginning an art project entitled 'Something Special'. As part of this project Mrs Yarker and I introduced things that are special to us and explained all the reasons why, going into lots of detail about how it makes us feel. Mrs Yarker talked about a special place and showed pictures of the tree roots and the dappled light and discussed the reasons she loved it. I showed four safety pins-which represent the pins I use to attach my race number-and talked about my love of running in the hills and how, despite the fear and pain, it brings me great joy. The children then spent time privately thinking about their own 'something special'. They each came up with an incredibly thoughtful idea which will inspire a piece of artwork.
In order to support this art project, we ask that the children bring in a memento which represents their 'something special'. This could be similar to four safety pins, a cup or a food wrapper. It could be similar to Mrs Yarker's, a picture of the place or part of the place. These are going to form the foundation of their artwork and it is extremely important that the children bring these to class next week. This could be on Monday or Thursday at the latest.
Homework
Thank you to those who have brought this homework in. There are still outstanding pieces, please bring these in next week.
Our learning this week in Year 6
English
We have continued our production practise. This week we have also used control in our sentence choices to convey how the reader should feel, by writing with a sense of suspense.
RE
We have begun work on our Leavers service by reflecting upon some key memories from the past seven years. We have also written prayers ready for our 'Prayer brick' which will take to our special Blackburn Diocese Leavers' service.
