We have explored aspects from The Diary of Anne Frank this week. We have read about the secret annex in which she hid with her family and another during World War 2. We have explored the secret annex virtually, via the Anne Frank website. We have re-visited prepositions and prepositional phrases during our grammar lessons and made use of these phrases (together with expanded noun phrases) to create our descriptions of the annex.

This week we have worked towards understanding the long division method. We have done this through practising our times tables, mentally doubling and halving numbers, creating number 'menus' and finally working through problems where we have been given the answer. The children have engaged really well with this and we look forward to mastering this method. I have spoken to the class about how vital times table knowledge is-particularly from this point in the curriculum and forwards-to assisting their understanding. Quick retrieval of key facts prevents the brain from becoming too tired when acquiring new knowledge. As we love to sing in Year 6, please see below one of our newest songs, which handily incorporates all 12 times tables in the space of 2.5 minutes!

Exploring the character and nature of God: this week we reviewed the words of a hymn and connected them to Old Testament words used for God. We did this to further enhance our understanding of the Christian view of God.
Science
In science, we continued our understanding of how nutrients are vital to our circulatory system and what it means to create a balanced diet. We compared a daily diet of two people and discussed it in conjunction with the Eatwell plate. This children gave fantastic answers which show their developing understanding of how to retrieve energy from our food and why balance is so important.
Wishing you a lovely weekend,
The Year 6 team
