Dear parents,

Slide1(5).JPG

I hope you've all had a lovely a restful summer!

We have had a lovely first week back this September, beginning our exciting journey in Year 6!  The class have settled in extremely well and we have made a start to our Autumn 1 curriculum.

Every Friday, the blog will be shared with the class to recap our learning and make them aware of their homework.
Moving to online homework has allowed us to become a more eco friendly school.

Homework

Have a go at logging into Spelling Shed-your details are in the your reading record-and completing the game.  If you have any problems, please let me know on Monday so that we can resolve the issue.

Please log into TTRS to practise your timestables.  If you prefer to use a different method to practise, please do so and make a not of it in your reading records.

Reading

As we know, reading is a crucial part of our curriculum and has a multitude of benefits, especially for our mental wellbeing.  We are keen to promote a love of reading and the children have already received their first guided reading book.  For guided reading this half-term, we enjoy a novel and our 'book-club' sessions.  Please sign their Reading Records at least weekly.

Spellings

We have a spellings lesson every day and our test is each Thursday.  The children will peer mark their tests (under supervision) and have the opportunitiy to practise their corrections.  In addition to this, the children have interactive tests and games which they should access on Spelling Shed. Please find below our spellings overview for Year 6, which includes example spellings.

Maths

I have spoken to the children about the expectation that they continue to practise their times tables and number bonds.  These maths basics form the foundations of most maths lessons and confidence in these areas will have a positive impact upon their learning.  Please support your child in keeping these skills sharp.

RE-Life as a journey

This week we began our new RE topic and discussed what a journey could be; this included the idea that it could be physcial or spiritual.  Following this, the children created a map of their own journeys in life so far and we used this to discuss the Big Question: 'Are all journeys the same?'  We also looked at the Christian value of 'humility' and discussed how we could show this value in our actions.  The children provided lots of lovely examples and have written up their work beautifully for our new display.

Dates to remember:

Crucial Crew visit: Monday 13th October (letters have been sent; please return reply slips).

Trip to Manchester Jewish Museum and Imperial War Museum:  Tuesday 14th October (letter to follow)

Have a great weekend!
